Study Skills Lab - Course Handout & Contract

Homework Help

Choose a time to do homework each day and stick with the commitment - e.g.. 4:00 - 6:00. (HINT*  Examine your life after school & decide on a time that you really feel you can stick too. Try writing down what you do between the end of the school day and bedtime for a few days and then choose the time you are most likely to give up to your homework .)

Gather the materials you will need before you begin. (pencils, rulers, dictionary, calculator, etc.)

Find a place that you are comfortable & free from distractions. (a desk in your room, the kitchen table away from the TV - many of us study best with music in the background - others prefer absolute quiet - know what is right for you).

Check your student planner do list - focus on what is due the next day first.  After immediate tasks are done, look to upcoming projects & tests.  Slice complex tasks into manageable pieces. (If the task is unpleasant  and you lack the self discipline to "power" through it - promise yourself a reward when you are done or after you have worked for specified time period.)

Check off your accomplishments!  Give yourself credit for sticking to your task....TAKE A DESERVED BREAK!
