At Windward High School, technology is integrated across the curriculum as students apply word processing, spreadsheets, database and graphics software for production and presentation of work. Internet access is for project inquiry, research and communication. On-line courses & enrichment are an easy fit for our technology rich environment.
Students and staff use technology to manage their tasks/calendars, organize and plan. Competencies — such as spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, PowerPoint, etc. and special skills such as Web Design, Graphic Arts, programming, networking, etc. are part of what can naturally occur in a technology rich environment. Windward High is being equipped (through the Gates Foundation grant) with networked student stations, (PC desktops and laptops) to a ration of 1 computer for every 2 students. Multimedia enhanced workstations will compliment our publication, graphics, and video capabilities. Scanners, digital cameras, DVD players, VCRs, projector/presentation units, and TVs will provide students and staff with tools for creation and presentation.
Students will develop personal web sites linked to their electronic portfolios—part of the state required culminating project requirement—where work and accomplishments are regularly published. Staff will also provide course, assignment and grading information through their web sites and/or district based software. Other grants are being explored to enhance the offering to students and provide ongoing upgrade and technical support for the school and community environment. |
