Mr. Schelle (brief bio)
|
WELCOME! This site allows easy access to the WHS science classroom. Updates are made daily, so please check back often for classroom materials. I'll post lesson schedules, homework, and problem-solving tips/examples as we go. Please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime. I'll be able to respond most effectively by email. THANKS! |

Physics |
This class is an introduction to the central concepts of classical physics. Topics include: scientific process, kinematics, mechanics (forces), energy, momentum, sound, and light. |
Robotics
 |
Robotics is offered as a science/technology elective. Students will learn engineering design principles, mechanical elements, electrical theory and practice, microcontroller operation and programming (JAVA), and simple artificial intelligence. We'll scrap old electronics to find parts for our bots! |
Chemistry
|
What is this universe made of? This course is an introduction to the central concepts of matter and its structure. Topics will include: measurement, matter and its changes, atomic theory, electron arrangement, compounds and nomenclature, chemical bonding, chemical equations, and reactions. |
Inquiry Science 1
|
This is the 9th grade science course for all Windward High School students and is important in preparation for the 10th grade Science WASL and future WHS science coursework. Inquiry Science 1 uses an integrated approach to learning important concepts in life science, physical science, and earth science. Additionally, in partnership with the City of Ferndale and Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA), students will assist local stormwater monitoring efforts. Data will be used by city planners to assess ecological impacts and best-practice management of stormwater runoff. |
Independent Science
Instructor Permission |
Depending upon student interest, projects may be designed and carried out under supervision from Schelle. Students must be able to work independently and problem-solve in the absence of classroom supervision. Past projects have included: Stormwater Project Leadership, Bone Articulation (Raccoon, Goat, and Deer). See Schelle for your ideas (or mine)! |
