The CSAC Program fosters mutual learning based on high expectations, personal interests and creativity. We do this by developing authentic relationships between students and the community.
To support our vision we will:
-
Build substantial, meaningful connections between the school and community that support learning.
-
Increase the capacity of organizations and businesses to serve the community through their experiences with the school.
-
Identify high quality and diverse community experiences that help students develop as creative and complex thinkers and active and responsible citizens.
The CSAC program helps students to develop relationships with their community and to develop the social and academic skills necessary to sustain these relationships. Windward students participate in internships, the student grants program, service-learning projects, and community service that connect the local citizens, organizations and community to work directly on youth initiated community service and service learning projects. Each program aspect helps to create strong bonds between the Ferndale community and its youth.
Community partnerships are a significant part of student's experience at Windward High School. The Connecting Schools and Communities Program offered to insure that more students leave high school ready for college, work, and civic contribution. This initiative was launched to help create strong educational and community-based opportunities for students in Washington State.
CSAC also allows students to go out and see how their learning applies to life beyond school, giving them a more authentic understanding of their education as an integral part of their life not just an abstract explanation isolated inside the school building.
