The Windward High School Connecting School and Community Program (CSAC) began in 2003 when the Ferndale Community received a $250,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since this time WHS has been successfully working to bring students and the local community together for meaningful collaborations. Washington State University played a crucial role in getting the program started and now teachers and students support the program.
-
To involve our community in addressing the needs of our youth
-
To involve our youth in addressing the needs of their community
-
To engage students in their high school academic coursework (service learning, internships, and the development of school based enterprises)
WHS teachers and students now act as liaison to the community. They can be reached at community@windwardhigh.org, or at 360-383-9150.
A good way to get involved or know what's happening is to contact the community coordination office, subscribe to the Connecting Schools and Community newsletter- In The Loop, or visit the CSAC program's web site. We want to be sure that the program is accessible, transparent and easily understood so we welcome your suggestions and participation.
The youth are in leadership positions and are busy identifying a broad variety of community service learning projects. They will need mentors, advisors, and friends to work with them in their community service learning projects. Everyone has talents and gifts they can give from their life experiences and skills. To volunteer for the program call the school at 360-383-9150.
